CL’s note: This is an excerpt I wrote almost a year ago and I still feel the same way about it as I did then. I needed the reminder of this topic myself , I hope this brings you some comfort as it did to me rereading it. <3

Consistency is a seesaw.
Why? Because from what I have discovered, there is no perfect way of doing it. I believe it looks different for all of us, and in my experience, it has not been what I expected. Although I don’t think I had a clear idea of what it would look like, I simply wanted to keep trying. I wanted to awaken the creativity that had been dormant due to unforeseen circumstances. It was time.
As much as I would have loved to be able to get back into the habit of all of the hobbies I enjoy all at once, that in itself is quite impossible. You have to begin by choosing one or two, and take it one day at a time. If you do it once a week, that’s a start! Twice, that’s great! Three times? That deserves a pat on the back!
Consistency means to do something multiple times, but to get to that place, you have to remind yourself that it’s okay to mess up. You have to be willing to give yourself grace when you don’t do as much as you’d like. You need to learn how to give yourself credit for when you DO.
Small progress is still progress, and that alone is something to be proud of.
I know the internet puts this hidden amount of pressure on to do everything, do it within specific time frames, or by a certain age. However, I am a firm believer that that is all bullshit. Everyone has different life situations, and everyone is going through something.
Things do NOT change overnight, but they can change over time.
Little by little. Growth should never be seen as a race, and I despise that this is often how society portrays it to be, especially on social media. It’s beautiful to see and hear others open up about their progress and show the parts that are edited away and not filmed. Yes, we love to control how others perceive us, but I have always thought that seeing the raw parts is what makes the humanity of it all so beautiful.
We will stumble, we will fall, and we may even hit rock bottom a few times.
But at the end of the day, we are still trying. We are fighting to live, we are fighting to show the world parts of ourselves through creative outlets, and we are fighting to be heard in some way. So let me remind you of this: consistency is key, yes, but your small victories are greater. Self-criticism will only take us so far and only tear us down more and more; it is the poison that slowly kills us if we allow it to. If we don’t realize that we need help, a hand to hold us through to get shit done, then we are allowing the poison to absorb us whole.
You are full of love, okay?
And you deserve to feel it, create it, and share it. Slowly and then one day, all at once.
